The 2025 Freedom Torch has inspected seven development projects in Singida Municipality with a total value of TZS 7.5 billion.
One of the key milestones of the visit was the official inauguration of the new Singida Municipal Council Office Building. The building was inaugurated by the National Leader of the Freedom Torch race, Mr. Ismail Ali Ussi, who expressed satisfaction with the quality of the facility.
This modern government building, which cost approximately TZS 3 billion, had its foundation stone laid by the Freedom Torch on July 8, 2024. Its completion is expected to provide a more conducive working environment for staff and improve service delivery for more than 200,000 residents.
Another highlight was the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of an oxygen generation plant at Singida Regional Referral Hospital. The project, valued at TZS 1,439,331,440.20, is being implemented by Gankety Construction Ltd from Mwanza under the consultancy of Sigma Gas and Engineering Ltd.
“I am pleased with the quality of the oxygen generation project and commend the Sixth Phase Government under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for its efforts to improve the health sector and ensure better health services for citizens,” said Mr. Ussi.
Once completed, the project is expected to save approximately TZS 9 million per month — money that was previously spent to procure medical oxygen from Dodoma and Manyara. The plant will serve a population of over 2 million people in Singida Region.
The Freedom Torch also laid a foundation stone for the construction of the Mungumaji tarmac road, which is being managed by the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA). The road was praised for its high quality, with Mr. Ussi remarking that it deserved to be officially opened rather than just receiving a foundation stone due to its excellence.
“This road meets the required standards and will be a major benefit to residents of Majengo in Mwenge Street. I applaud TARURA for the excellent workmanship,” he added.
The 0.7-kilometer road has cost TZS 634,786,782.10 and includes eight culverts, 12 pedestrian crossings, and eight vehicular crossings. In the 2026/2027 financial year, TARURA plans to install street lights and add road signage to further enhance safety.
The completion of this road has significantly reduced the frequent maintenance costs that were incurred when it was previously gravel-based.
After inspecting projects in Singida District Council, Mkalama, Iramba, and Singida Municipality, the Freedom Torch continues its journey through Ikungi, Manyoni, and Itigi District Councils. The torch will be officially handed over to Tabora Region on July 26.
