Singida Councillors Urge SUWASA to Improve Water Supply Services

The Singida Municipal Council has called on the Singida Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (SUWASA) to intensify efforts in improving water services and avoid creating conflict between the President and citizens due to ongoing complaints over water shortages.

Speaking during the council session, Singida Municipal Mayor, Geofrey Mdama said even the water rationing schedule announced by the authority is not being properly implemented, causing significant inconvenience to residents.

“We urge SUWASA not to create misunderstanding between the President and the citizens. The government’s policy is to relieve women from the burden of carrying water containers on their heads. It is unacceptable that even the water rationing schedule you announced is not functioning properly,” said Mdama.

On her part, Neema Lunga described the water crisis in Singida Municipality as a serious disaster and called on SUWASA to establish a clear and reliable water rationing timetable so that residents can plan accordingly to access the service.

Meanwhile, Acting Director of Water Distribution and Environmental Sanitation, Lunango Muwelu said the daily water demand for Singida exceeds 24 million litres, while the current production stands at only 10 million litres per day, equivalent to 40 percent of the actual demand.
