Tanzania’s Budget Targets Grassroots Development
By Abdul Bandola
In a show of renewed hope for Tanzanians, CCM cadre Mr. Jafaphari Saidi has praised the 2025/2026 national budget as being people-centered, inclusive, and focused on sustainable development. Speaking to journalists, the party cadre highlighted three key points: the control of national debt, infrastructure development, and preparations for the AFCON tournament through sports investment.
Low Debt, Strong Economy: Tanzania Leads in East Africa
Jafaphari emphatically stated that Tanzania stands out as the country with the lowest debt-to-GDP ratio in East Africa. This, he noted, shows that the government is managing the economy prudently without burdening the nation with unsustainable debts.
“While others rely heavily on foreign loans at every step, we mostly fund ourselves and repay our debts without pressure – that’s a mark of our economic independence,” Jafaphari said.
A Development-Oriented Budget: Prioritizing Services for Citizens
The budget continues to focus on essential public services such as:
Road infrastructure
Healthcare services in both rural and urban areas
Access to clean water
Improvements in education from primary to higher learning institutions
Rural electrification through REA
Jafaphari emphasized that unlike previous budgets, this one is geared toward directly benefiting ordinary citizens rather than focusing on abstract or large-scale projects with no visible impact.
“This isn’t a budget of words – it’s a budget of action. Ordinary Tanzanians will see it in roads, clinics, schools, and water taps,” he added.
Sports as a Priority: AFCON Brings New Opportunities for Youth
One of the strongly emphasized sectors in the budget is sports, especially through preparations for Tanzania to co-host the AFCON 2027 tournament. Jafaphari noted that building modern stadiums and sports infrastructure is a long-term investment – not just for the tournament but also for nurturing talent and creating youth employment.
“These stadiums are not just for visitors. They will remain for our local leagues, our teams, and our youth. This is development, not a short-term project,” he stressed.
A Budget of Hope and Citizen Participation
Jafaphari concluded by saying that the budget is proof that the Sixth Phase Government under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan is committed to standing with its people. By using domestic revenue, controlling expenditures, and focusing on social services, Tanzania is laying a solid foundation for sustainable development.
“This is a budget of hope. A budget of transformation. A budget for Tanzanians,” he said.
Why This Budget Matters
National Debt Among the lowest in East Africa (compared to Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda)
Development Projects Focus on health, education, water, roads, and sports.
