The Tanzania Police Force has issued a public update on various incidents from across the country, One of the highlighted cases is from Singida Region involving Sheikh Zuberi Nkokoo, whose sudden disappearance recently sparked rumors of abduction.

According to the statement from Police Headquarters in Dodoma, preliminary investigations revealed that Sheikh Zuberi, a 53-year-old religious teacher and leader at the Islam Foundation in Singida—an institution also involved in animal slaughtering services—faked his own kidnapping in an attempt to evade debts.

The alleged incident gained attention through mainstream and social media platforms, with claims that Sheikh Zuberi had been kidnapped by individuals he identified as police officers. It was reported that he disappeared on the night of June 2, 2025, around 11:00 PM, while carrying TSh 42 million in cash. A formal missing person report was filed with the police.

However, upon thorough investigation, the police found no evidence of abduction. Instead, they confirmed that Sheikh Zuberi had staged the kidnapping to escape repayment of debts amounting to TSh 521.5 million owed to various individuals (names withheld).

The police emphasized that legal procedures are underway, and Sheikh Zuberi will be taken to court once all formalities are complete.
