Fatma Karume, former wife of the first President of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, Abeid Amani Karume, has expressed shock over President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan’s recent decision to remove Paul Makonda from his position as the Regional Commissioner for Arusha.
Speaking at the Women’s Forum in Arusha Region, where Ambassador Dr. Emanuel Nchimbi was the Guest of Honour, Karume said she was surprised by the news of Makonda’s removal, although she later received unconfirmed reports suggesting the reasons behind it.
"I was shocked to hear that Makonda was removed from office, but later I heard some whispers," Karume remarked without disclosing further details.
Reports indicate that Paul Makonda may be preparing to run for the Member of Parliament seat for Arusha Urban constituency.
