The United Republic of Tanzania, through the Ministry of Transport and the National Institute of Transport, will host the 4th International Conference on Transport, Logistics and Management from 20th to 21st August 2026 at the Mlimani City Conference Centre in Dar es Salaam.
The conference will bring together policymakers, researchers, industry practitioners, and development partners to discuss the future of transport and logistics in Africa and beyond under the main theme: “Towards Smart, Green, Integrated and Resilient Transport and Logistics for Seamless Connectivity and Trade Facilitation.”
“This year’s theme reflects the growing urgency for transport systems that are not only efficient but also environmentally sustainable, digitally connected, and resilient to economic and climate shocks,” said Dr. Francis Muya, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee.
According to Dr. Muya, the event will feature five key sub-themes designed to guide discussions and paper submissions. “The first sub-theme focuses on Logistics and Smart Transport Systems, covering areas such as supply chain management, intelligent transport systems, and the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in transport,” he explained.
“The second sub-theme addresses Modernizing Transport Infrastructure for Sustainable Mobility. It will explore planning, design, construction, maintenance, and lifecycle asset management to improve efficiency and resilience of transport networks,” Dr. Muya said.
“A third sub-theme is dedicated to Safe, Green and Affordable Transport Mobility. Discussions will center on accident prevention, safety management, regulatory compliance, infrastructure safety standards, and the transition to electric vehicles and climate-resilient infrastructure,” he added.
“The fourth sub-theme looks at Strategic Partnerships for Financing Transport Infrastructure and Operations. It will examine transport economy analysis, public-private partnerships, financing frameworks, and innovative approaches to service delivery and infrastructure development,” Dr. Muya noted.
“The fifth sub-theme covers Cross-Cutting Issues in Transport and Logistics, including accessibility, rural connectivity, gender mainstreaming, and the role of transport in expanding access to jobs and essential services,” he said.
“To ensure broad participation, the conference will be held in a hybrid mode, allowing both physical and online attendance. This format is expected to increase engagement from participants across Africa and globally,” Dr. Muya explained.
Dr. Muya outlined the participation fees for the conference. “Local participants will pay TZS 200,000, while foreign participants will pay USD 100. Local students can attend for TZS 100,000, and foreign students for USD 50. Online participants will pay half of the physical participation fee,” he said.
On paper submissions, Dr. Muya urged authors to meet the deadlines. “Abstracts of not more than 300 words must be submitted by 30th May 2026. Full papers, not exceeding 6000 words, will be due by 30th July 2026,” he stated.
“All submissions should be made electronically to conference@nit.ac.tz. Notification of acceptance will be issued by 30th June 2026,” Dr. Muya added.
He emphasized that accepted papers must be presented during the conference to appear in the official proceedings. “Selected high-quality papers will be published in the Journal of Logistics, Management and Engineering Sciences,” he said.
“This conference is a platform for Tanzania to showcase its commitment to modernizing transport and logistics. We welcome researchers, practitioners, and students to share their work and contribute to Africa’s transport agenda,” Dr. Muya said.
Dr. Muya said the hybrid format is designed to make the conference more inclusive. “We want to ensure that participants from across the continent and beyond can join us, whether in person or online. Knowledge should not be limited by geography,” he noted.
“Only papers presented during the event will be included in the proceedings. This ensures active engagement and meaningful knowledge exchange among participants,” he explained.
Participants will have the opportunity to network with experts, share research findings, and explore collaborations that can shape the future of transport and logistics in the region, according to Dr. Muya.
“The conference aligns with Tanzania’s broader agenda of strengthening regional integration and improving trade facilitation through modern transport systems,” he said.
By hosting the event, the National Institute of Transport continues to position itself as a leading center for transport education, research, and policy dialogue in East Africa, Dr. Muya noted.
“Further details about the conference, including registration and submission guidelines, are available on the official website at http://www.nit.ac.tz/events/7. For inquiries, participants can contact us on +255 715 792 828, 0717 958 110, and 0787 050 716,” he concluded.
